At Oregon Jiu Jitsu Lab, we're thrilled to welcome you to your first class! Whether you're a seasoned athlete or stepping onto the mat for the first time, we've got you covered. Here's what you can expect:
What to Wear: If you don't have a gi, no worries! Comfortable athletic wear, like a t-shirt and shorts or leggings, will do just fine for your first class.
Hydration: Make sure to hydrate well before class. Bring your own water bottle.
Arrival Time: We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early to get acquainted with the space and complete any necessary paperwork. You can view our schedule here.
Your first class will start with a warm-up that includes basic Jiu Jitsu-specific movements. This is designed to get your heart rate up and prepare your body for training.
After the warm-up, we'll dive into the technique of the day. Our instructors will demonstrate and break down each move, making it easy to understand. You'll then pair up to practice the technique, also known as "drilling."
Feel free to participate in live training, also known as "rolling," where you'll have the chance to apply what you've learned in a live setting. This part is optional for your first class, and there's absolutely no pressure to participate.
At the end of class, we'll come together for a brief cool-down and some final thoughts from the instructor. This is a great time to ask questions and get to know your fellow classmates.
We can't wait to welcome you to Oregon Jiu Jitsu Lab. If you have any questions or concerns before your first class, don't hesitate to contact us at dan@ojjlab.com
